Position Description

The Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University seeks a Communication Scholar whose research and teaching focus upon discourses of difference and diversity in cultural, health, political, or strategic contexts. We seek candidates with credentials to allow appointment at the level of either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. We are interested in individuals who can contribute to graduate and undergraduate courses in an area of expertise that utilizes rhetorical, critical, and/or discourse analytic approaches.

Required Qualifications

All candidates must have:
1. Earned Ph.D. in communication or communication studies by the start date.
2. Provide evidence of graduate level coursework relevant to the foci of this call.
3. Provide evidence of university-level teaching experience.

For appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, candidates must demonstrate:
1. Expertise in the area discourses of difference and diversity as applied to cultural, global, health, political, or strategic contexts.
2. Research productivity as demonstrated by peer-reviewed scholarship, such as published articles and the presentation of research papers at professional conferences.

For appointment at the level of Associate Professor, candidates must demonstrate:
1. Expertise in the area discourses of difference and diversity as applied to cultural, health, global, political, or strategic contexts.
2. Research productivity as demonstrated by peer-reviewed scholarship, such as published articles and the presentation of research papers at professional conferences.
3. To be eligible for hire at the Associate Professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards.
4. A record of service to department, university, and profession.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who:
1. Are prepared to teach in the areas of rhetorical methods, communication and diversity, and cultural or intercultural communication.
2. Enhance the department’s research profile by publishing peer-reviewed research that addresses concerns about cultural, health, global, political, or strategic contexts.
3. Demonstrate the ability to mentor and teach undergraduate and graduate students who make up a diverse student body.
4. Provide evidence of externally-supported scholarly effectiveness including funded research activities and community development projects.
